I’m Dr. Layla Hart, DDS — a dentist, a mum, and the founder of KOEC.
A decade ago, life looked picture-perfect on the outside. Inside, I was running on fumes. New mum, busy practice, late-night charting… I’d crawl into bed exhausted and still wake up puffy, dry-mouthed and unrested.
As a dentist, I recognised the pattern: night-time mouth-breathing. It dries the mouth, can irritate the throat, and leaves you feeling less refreshed. I tried to fix it the “easy” way — a strip of medical tape. It worked… but it was designed for bandages, not beauty sleep. It tugged my skin, left red edges, and looked anything but feminine.
So I asked a simple question: What if mouth tape were designed for women’s skin and comfort first?
The KOEC Difference Was Born
I sketched shapes during night feeds, ordered textiles between appointments, and built early prototypes on my own face (and my very patient sister’s!). I wanted three non-negotiables:
- A gentle, skin-kind hold that stays put yet peels away cleanly.
- A soft, breathable fabric with a small comfort vent so it feels easy to wear.
- A look and feel women actually love — elegant, playful, and unmistakably feminine.
After dozens of iterations with women in my community, we landed on the KOEC design: a silky-soft, fuchsia strip with a tiny centre vent that sits smoothly over the lips and removes without drama.
